Portland Electric Vehicle Roadmap Conference proceedings now available to read

Dec. 30, 2009 (Portland, OR) - Late last week, the full proceedings document was made available from the EV Roadmap Conference which was held in Portland, Oregon on Nov. 9. The day-long event was a convening of a broad coalition of the region's individuals, businesses, EV manufacturers and suppliers, nonprofits, and public sector organizations to discuss what work had been done towards preparing the Oregon for electric vehicle (EV) adoption and to coordinate efforts into a community of interest with a look at what was on the horizon for electric vehicles in 2010 and beyond.

Design for the Other 90% exhibit featured in the Oregonian

Dec. 23, 2009 – More praise for the 'Design for the Other 90%' exhibit. Yesterday's issue of The Oregonian featured a nice story on the exhibit, which highlights the growing trend among designers to develop low-cost solutions that address basic needs of the poor, particularly the 5.8 billion people (90% of the world's total population) with little or no access to food, clean water or shelter.

AshokaTech Podcast #3 is available

Dec. 21, 2009 – The latest edition of the AshokaTech podcast was released late last week. The audio interview features Ashoka-Lemelson Fellow Bright Simons talking about his innovation – a mobile technology that could improve health and safety in West Africa, using an easy-to-use SMS identification system to eliminate the proliferation of fake pharmaceuticals.

Big week for NCIIA in the press

Dec. 18, 2009 – The secret is out. The National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) is producing some amazing results. Dec. 17, 2009 - The innovative work of The Lemelson Foundation and some of our grantees – including RAMP India's Dr. Sathya Jeganathan, SELCO-India, and Kickstart – was showcased on Voice of America's (VOA) English language stations around the world recently. 

Villgro's Unconvention: Reaching out to rural innovators in India

Dec. 16, 2009 – Last week, Villgro featured it's first "Unconvention" in Chennai, India which featured a opportunity for rural innovators to meet, share their innovations, and recognize accomplishments. Activities for the 4-in-1 convention included: An Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship conference, a business plan competition for social entreprenuers, a fair where innovations can be showcased, and an awards ceremony to honor outstanding innovators.

Former E-Team featured in The Wall Street Journal

Dec. 8, 2009 – Solar lamps designed and distributed by former NCIIA E-team Greenlight Planet are lighting up the lives of people in rural India, as reported yesterday in The Wall Street Journal. Greenlight Planet was started as a E-Team by students at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to develop a solar-charged, battery powered LED lantern for use in India and China.
