Sept. 14 – The Solar Ear project, developed by Ashoka-Lemelson Fellow Howard Weinstein, has been selected as one of 15 initiatives for a Tech Award. The project, which pairs a low-cost hearing aid solution with a solar charger, was featured online today by Fast Company's Ariel Schwartz. You can read the article here.

Sept 10, 2009 - Last week, Lemelson Foundation Executive Director Julia Novy-Hildesley joined a panel discussion at the SOCAP09 annual Social Capital Markets conference series.

In advance of the panel – which featured representatives from the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) and the Center for Global Development talking about investing in small and medium enterprises in developing countries – SOCAP published a Q&A with Novy-Hildesley on their website.

Sept. 9, 2009 – Among the winners announced today for The Wall Street Journal 2009 Technology Innovation Awards was recent Lemelson-MIT Sustainability winner Joel Selanikio and his company DataDyne. The nonprofit was picked from more than 500 entries for their free EpiSurveyor software that helps health care officials in developing countries use mobile devices to collect data on immunization rates, vaccine supplies and other health-care related information.

Sept. 9, 2009 – Add another accolade to the growing list about Ecovative, the company that is using mushrooms and other organic materials for a drop-in replacement to styrofoam. The company, recently highlighted in Popular Science, was last week featured on CNN.com's "Young People Who Rock" blog as well as on a CNN.com Live Interview with 24-year-old founders/innovators Eben Bayer and Gavin McIntyre.

August 18 - The National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) has announced a limited number of $500 stipends are available for expenses related to developing biomedical innovations for participation in the BMEidea competition. The deadline for stipend applications is November 6, 2009.

July 24 - Only 200 days until over 250 leading social entrepreneurs, business and thought leaders from around the globe will come together at Tech 4 Society, a celebration showcasing technological solutions and inventions that are revolutionizing social change around the world.

Brought together as part of the collaboration between Ashoka and the Lemelson Foundation, the landmark event will take place Feb. 11-13, 2010 in Hyderabad, India and will feature Ashoka-Lemelson Fellows as well as other luminaries in the field. Participants will share vital insights, perspectives, and experiences through a keynote address, plenary sessions, and panel discussions.
