Touching Lives by Breathing Life into Innovation

The oldest of the three Recognition and Mentoring Programs (RAMPs), RAMP India was established in 2004 as a partnership with Villgro (formerly the Rural Innovations Network) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M). Based in Chennai, RAMP India focuses on innovations from the state of Tamil Nadu.

Of particular focus for RAMP India are the four sectors – agriculture, water, energy and dairy – where innovations and innovation-based businesses in India have the most potential for significant impact on those living below the poverty line.

Acting in this area, RAMP India has defined strategies, services, processes and activities to promote the establishment of viable, replicable, and scalable enterprises based on innovations:

  • Help innovators access services required to take their innovation to the market. This includes: technology validation, product design, prototyping, market and field tests, intellectual property protection, business modeling, and technology transfer.
  • Facilitate the establishment of viable enterprises that manufacture and market innovations.
  • Create a sustainable innovation-incubation model that can be replicated and adapted for different locations.
