IMPORTANT NOTICE: EMAIL SCAMS
The Lemelson Foundation has learned recently that unknown individuals are sending emails claiming to be from or associated with The Lemelson Foundation. These emails offer the recipient a grant and/or donation to support the recipient's own personal, educational, and business development. The emails often appear official and reference the names of employees and officers of The Lemelson Foundation.
The Lemelson Foundation is in no way associated with any of the persons distributing these fraudulent emails. The Lemelson Foundation does not provide grants or donations through emails, does not make grants or donations to individuals, and does not request personal information via email. If you receive a suspicious email or communication that purports to be from The Lemelson Foundation, please do not respond to the email and instead contact us at webmaster@lemelson.org
To help you avoid email scams, keep the following tips in mind:
- Don't send money to someone you don't know.
- Don't respond to messages that ask for your personal or financial information.
- Keep in mind that wiring money is like sending cash: once it's gone, you can't get it back.
- Don't agree to deposit a check from someone you don't know and then wire money back.
- Read your bills and monthly statements regularly on paper and online.
- In the wake of a natural disaster or another crisis, give to established charities rather than one that seems to have sprung up overnight.
- When considering an investment, remember that there's no such thing as a sure thing.
- Know where an offer comes from and who you're dealing with.
