Jessica Matthews

While still in college, Jessica O. Matthews co-invented an energy-generating soccer ball called SOCCKET. It was based on her experiences in Nigeria where she observed people living without electricity and depending on diesel generators.
As an inventor, she has always had a strong sense of social responsibility and harnessing the power of invention to alleviate poverty. At age 22, she became the founder and CEO of Uncharted, a company dedicated to creating more energy-generating play products like her initial soccer ball design.
She later expanded the startup to industrial power solutions and sustainable infrastructure. Under Matthews’ leadership, Uncharted has become an award-winning company that develops technology for smart cities. One of their newest innovations uses AI photos to assess energy cost savings in homes around the world.

She has become a thought leader in climate resiliency, and served as an advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy on modernizing infrastructure. As an inventor, she is listed on over 12 patents, and has been recognized for her broader work by Forbes 30 Under 30, Harvard University Scientist of the Year, and the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award.
