Engineering for One Planet Initiative Partners With ECL-USA for a Virtual Engineering Education Summit

The Foundation’s Engineering for One Planet (EOP) Initiative partnered with ECL-USA to present a virtual summit on March 14th, 2023. Sponsored by NCEES and in collaboration with ABET and Olin College of Engineering, the summit, Scanning the Horizon of Engineering Education: The Sustainability Imperative, explored the importance of integrating sustainability into engineering education.

Members of the engineering education community, including engineering school faculty and prominent engineering employers, as well as many EOP partners, presented on a variety of topics. Summit attendees also explored what the future of engineering education may look like, and the obstacles that inhibit the progress of integrating sustainability into engineering curricula.

The Foundation’s Senior Program Officer, Cindy Cooper, spoke on the value of the Framework developed by EOP to catalyze the systemic change needed to transform engineering education, and faculty from two of the five EOP Pilot Grant Program schools — the University of Maryland and Arizona State University — shared how they approached integrating EOP principles into their curricula.
