The Foundation and ABET partner to launch the Engineering for One Planet (EOP) Innovation in Sustainability Award

The Foundation and ABET are pleased to announce the launch of the “ABET and The Lemelson Foundation Engineering for One Planet (EOP) Innovation in Sustainability Award.”

Inspired by the mission of the Engineering for One Planet initiative, which was catalyzed by the Foundation and VentureWell, the Foundation and ABET created this award to celebrate individuals, programs, and institutional teams that are successfully building sustainability and innovation into STEM education at ABET-accredited programs.

“We are thrilled to support this award, which recognizes how critical high-quality sustainability education is for every STEM graduate and our future workforce,” said Rob Schneider, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

Potential candidates should have proven success in integrating sustainability into STEM courses by utilizing tools like the EOP Framework and other resources as guides. The EOP Framework, developed by the Foundation, supports the ABET criteria and other related teaching tools to assist in implementing sustainability concepts into computing, engineering, engineering technology and applied and natural science education.

The award recipient will receive a $10,000 cash prize, recognition at ABET’s annual awards ceremony next fall, and have their work featured on ABET’s website and social media.

Please note that this award will be selected from a pool of nominations. The deadline for submitting nominations is April 20, 2024.

For more details about the award, including nomination criteria and process, please visit ABET’s website.
