Scaling up the impact of innovative refrigeration for India’s smallholder farmers is the key goal of Promethean Power Systems’ CEO Jiten Ghelani.
In 2007, Promethean Director Sorin Grama invented the company’s patented energy storage technology to help rural dairy farmers in India preserve milk where electricity is unreliable. With various milk chiller products, more farmers are able to access affordable and energy-efficient cold-chain solutions.
Ghelani joined Promethean in 2015 as its CFO, and became its CEO a year later. For over a decade, he has helped develop the company’s strategy, worked with investors, and expanded the product’s market reach. This product expansion includes a farmer platform that connects dairy farmers with milk processors and a software solution for milk procurement.

During the company’s journey to developing its rapid milk chiller product, he attended VentureWell’s Xcelerator training program. This helped the company reach over 100,000 small farmers in more than 3,000 villages in India.
“We have evolved our business model to reach more smallholder farmers directly through our cooling-as-a-service platform model,” he told VentureWell.
