Emily Hazelwood

Biologist Emily Hazelwood co-founded Blue Latitudes with scientist Amber Sparks as a marine environmental consulting firm developing cost-effective, sustainable solutions for environmental issues in the offshore energy industry.
Blue Latitudes led the development of FishLAT (Fisheries Location Assessment Technology), a web-based spatial planning tool that connects fisheries and the energy sector. This tool uses machine learning for rapid interactive assessments that determine the impact of offshore energy structures on fisheries and local marine ecosystems. FishLAT data helps regulators, fishery managers, and energy industry stakeholders make critical decisions backed by real-world conditions.

With grant funding from the National Science Foundation and support from VentureWell’s Ocean Enterprise Accelerator program, Blue Latitudes is making science-driven decision-making tools more accessible, helping to protect our ocean habitats. In 2018, they were recognized for their work on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the energy sector.
